Aloha. All loving parents hope their offspring will exceed them as they carry on their seed into the succeeding generations, and Big Mike's legacy can be seen to continues on in his amazing daughter Sonya, whom it is a privilege and a marvel to know. How proud he will be when reunited one day in heaven. We will all dance for joy! God bless Mike's legacy and all of you reading, in Jesus' name. Mahalo loa. |

I went to Hawaii in 1972. Jan, we've known each other all our lives. I met Michael when I was 18 and very naive . He taught me so much about life, patience, love of the land, the ocean, pride in the Hawaiian heritage...we worked together, laughed together and he helped me through some difficult times. Although I haven't been "home" since the early 80"s,his impact in my life is something that will never leave me. It has taken me a year to beable to visit his page without sadness in my heart. I now can remember him and all the wonderful memories with happiness. Aloha Michael. Love to Jan, Aunt Emmy and the entire family. |

Among fraternity brothers, he was called “Big Mike” because he lived life large and was our model. Being away for 30 some years, I am heartened by the website postings and pics that he has continued to be a blessing to his family and countless people. He is one of God’s favorites.
Aloha, Big Mike

Mike was my Guardian Ad Litem for many years while a foster child. He made "the foster system" tolerable. Mike went above and beyond the duties of a GAL, he really cared about the children he represented.
The direction I've taken in my life is, in part, due to his actions and I thank him for that. He is truely the child's advocate's advocate. May God bless and keep him until we meet again.

To the Ohana of a very wonderful man who
helped both myself and my son thru a horrific period in our lives.Because of Mike's love and belief in my son and kids in general,my son made it.Today he is a wonderful husband & father & gives back each day to the Hawaiian community.
Mahalo for the many hours you shared Mike with the rest of us. I know his work often took him away from home and this was not without sacrifice from each of you.
A big Hawaiian hug,

Aloha nui kakou Tongg ohana! After the last few days of preparation and resettling in after hurricane "Floppy" I finally have time to write in the guest book. I really wanted to attend the services for Mike but could not make it. Mike was the president of the fraternity, Hui Lokahi that i joined at UH Manoa 1962. I knew him mostly in that capacity where he presided with flair and uncommon kindness. We partied, paddled, surfed, put on lu'aus and did community service projects and really bonded as brothers for 6 years until I graduated in '68 and moved to Maui. He was a great man and will be missed by us all until e hui ai kakou i ka ao'ao o kou makou makuakane ma ka lani akea loa. Me ke aloha pumehana, ed frazer |

The sun sets with a great spirit... I was truly blessed in having met Mike and for his compassion. He found something in me worth caring for and opened his heart and home and family to me. That changed my life in a way that was deeply profound and unforgettable. I am grateful for having known you Mike and for you sharing your gifts with me. My heart goes out to you Jan, Micheal, Matt, and Stacy. Thank you for sharing your dad with me and so many others. |

Our deepest condolences to the Tongg Ohana. It was a pleasure and honor to know such a KIND man. Atty. Tongg came as a blessing during a very difficult time for our family. We are very thankful to have met and be guided by him. He lived and exuded the Golden Rule. We'll surely miss him. |

To the Tongg 'Ohana...
On behalf of our families, Mahoe, Kalama and Gerona...our deapest Sympathy. Today's send-off was very heart-felt and deserving for such an awesome man. Uncle Mike has helped us in Family Court and has been a mentor for many in the paddling world since I was a child. I have had the pleasure of seeing him working with Family Court cases on Maui as well. He treated every single child, like one of his own. Uncle Mike will be missed especially at Molokai Hoe. I won't have anything to do before the race. No carrying his bucket or clipboard.
A hui hou Uncle Mike. |

No words will express how truely sad I am to hear of Mike's passing. It is rare to know a person who will help you with absolutely no expectations in return. From being coach to helping with the law to so simple a thing as watching the kids on the beach while we paddled. He was the kindest gentlemen I knew in Hawaii, nor have I met another of equal standing. I wish your family all the love and more to see you through your time of grief. Aloha Stephaney |

Aloha Mrs. Tongg. Within the short time that I have known Mr. Tongg, he has expressed upon me the feeling that he was an extremely impressive man. I truly did not know the extent of his accomplishments until now. Wow! Mr. Tongg has indeed lived a full and productive life and I hope to posses as much energy for life, and be as open to life as he did. On a personal level, I found Mr. Tongg to be a generous man, full of patience and having a humble heart. With all that I have already said, I am still unable to fully express in words the imprint that both you and Mr. Tongg has left on me. My heart is full with aloha for you. May Heavenly Father bless you and your beautiful family.
